Blackpool rewards a plan, but not a rigid one. Everything in the Rainbow Quarter is a short walk, so your real decisions are where to sleep, what to book and how late you want to go. This plan keeps it simple.
Where should I stay on a first visit?
Pick a base within five minutes of the station. Pride Lodge (1 minute to the station), Mardi Gras (rooms above a community pub) and Q Accommodation (2 minutes) are the easiest starts. Browse the full stays list or stays near the station.
What does the weekend look like?
Friday
- Get off the train at Blackpool North and leave your luggage at the guest house.
- Start with a drink on Lord Street, then head to Garlands on Talbot Road, which lists free entry and afternoon-onwards queens.
- Finish at The Flying Handbag, Queen Street, where Miss Amber hosts on Fridays.
Saturday
- Slow breakfast, then the seafront: North Pier is roughly 9 minutes from Pride Lodge and the Tower about 12.
- Early evening: dinner at Garbo's in the Funny Girls building, listed at £29.85 for three courses on show nights.
- Show: Funny Girls, with 7pm doors and an 8:30pm start on listed times.
- Afterwards, sing along at Oscars and then try The Flying Handbag.
Sunday
- Lunch at De-Lovely, Mardi Gras, or The Flying Handbag (noon until 5pm). Book ahead on busy weekends.
- A final walk along the Promenade before your train.
Do I need to book Funny Girls?
Yes for Friday and Saturday, which sell out first. Standing tickets begin near £10; seat prices vary by night. Phone the box office about access needs.
Is it safe and easy to get around?
The quarter is compact and welcoming; read our safety page and reserve a licensed cab ahead when it is busy. For late-night routes see getting there and getting home.
How do I make it my own?
- Swap in a pub lunch or food stop.
- Come midweek for a gentler version: quiet midweek breaks.
- Check what is open tonight on the day.
The Rainbow Quarter reference site has deeper venue notes if you want more.
A few first-timer rules
- Bring ID; most venues are 18+.
- Carry some cash: Lu-Lu's is cash only.
- Do not expect every place to open all day; times vary, so use open tonight.
- Men-only venues are men-only: Trades, the Prince Albert, Welhorny's and Growlr Club.
If it rains
Blackpool is built for bad weather: Funny Girls performs inside a 1939 Art Deco cinema that has been restored, the bars are cosy and Garlands has daily drag. A wet afternoon can be a pub afternoon.
Travelling solo or in a couple
Couples of the same sex tend to feel at ease in the quarter and by the seafront, say our notes. Solo visitors often start with quizzes, karaoke or bingo, which are social by design.
What should I pack and book?
- Show tickets: book Funny Girls first, as it shapes your Saturday.
- Accommodation: decide between a quiet guest house and a bar with rooms, using adults-only guest houses and hotels with a bar.
- Dinner: the Garbo's pre-show dinner needs booking with the show.
- Travel: check trains on National Rail and trams with Blackpool Transport.
What if I only have one night?
Do the Saturday plan: arrive in the afternoon, enjoy the free drag at Garlands, eat before the show, and finish with karaoke at Oscars. You will still see the heart of the quarter, and the walking times keep the evening easy.
What if I want a men-only weekend?
See men-only hotels for the options, and the saunas listed in our nightlife pages for daytime plans.
Policies, prices and facilities can change, so confirm details with the property before you book.
