Where to stay

Gay-owned and LGBTQ+-run B&Bs in Blackpool

Our records describe several guest houses as LGBTQ+ stays; here is what is confirmed, what is not, and how to ask before you book.

Plenty of visitors want their money to stay in the community, so "gay-owned" is a fair thing to search for. We want to be straight with you: our data records which stays are LGBTQ+ guest houses, but it does not record who owns them. So we will not label any property gay-owned. What we can do is list the guest houses that describe themselves as LGBTQ+ and show you how to ask.

Which guest houses describe themselves as LGBTQ+?

Are these places gay-owned?

We cannot say. Being an LGBTQ+ guest house tells you about the welcome and the clientele, not the ownership structure. Some properties also belong to the BAGS Blackpool hoteliers group, which vets its members as LGBTQ+-friendly stays; membership is a friendliness marker, again not an ownership one.

How can I check who runs a place?

  1. Check the property's own site or social pages; many hosts introduce themselves.
  2. Ask at booking: most guest houses are happy to explain who you will meet at reception.
  3. Read recent guest reviews, which often mention the hosts by name.

McGraths is a good example: visitors score it well on welcome, tidiness and the morning meal, which tells you about the welcome even if it does not tell you about ownership. See McGraths Bar and Hotel.

What if I want a bar and rooms in one place?

Take a look at stays above the bar, where the rooms sit over a community pub or cabaret bar.

Making a good choice

For all adult-only choices read adults-only gay guest houses. The Rainbow Quarter reference site also covers community businesses in more depth.

What to look for instead of an ownership label

If you want a stay that feels part of the community, look for evidence you can check. Does the guest house describe itself as LGBTQ+ on its own site? Does it list a clear policy on age and groups? Does it point you towards local bars, shows and Pride? Those signals tell you more than a label.

Pride Lodge advises booking early for Pride and Illuminations weekends. Lawrence House presents itself as a home for LGBTQ+ guests with companions. De-Lovely runs a bar open to the public, which makes it a social stop as well as a place to sleep.

A note about accuracy

Our facts come from the owner's records and published listings. If you know a property's ownership and would like it described correctly, tell us via the forum and we will check it.

Policies, prices and facilities can change, so confirm details with the property before you book.
